Genus of 1 or 2 species of evergreen shrubs or small trees found in seasonally dry stream beds and margins from the Mediterranean to China. Oleander needs a large room or conservatory. It is a large tree or shrub. The fragrant blooms appear in summer. In autumn cut back the stems. White, pink, red and yellow varieties are available.
All parts are highly toxic if ingested. Contact with foliage may irritate skin. |

| Warm - minimum 50F in winter. As much light as possible. Shade from hot sun. Grow in soil-based potting mix. Will tolerate hard pruning. |
Keep compost moist at all times - reduce watering in winter. Mist leaves frequently. |
Take semi-ripe stem cuttings in spring. Use a rooting hormone and provide bottom heat. Sow seed at 61 F (16 C) in spring. Air layer in spring. |
